What is Kempo?
“Kempo” translates to “Fist Law” or “Law of the Fist”.  It is a Japanese term used to describe Chinese martial arts, similarly to how the term “Kung Fu” is used in the United States to describe Chinese martial arts.  There are a variety of kempo systems, all very effective.

Shaolin Kempo Karate
The system we study is Shaolin Kempo Karate (although we often refer to simply as Kempo).   It combines fluid circular movements of Shaolin Temple Boxing, Kempo’s rapid fire combination of hard and soft, and the explosiveness of Karate.  Thus the name.  Utilizing punches, kicks, throws and grappling, the system is very flexible.  It lends itself to many different body types and is an extremely effective form of self defense.
